Importance of Training

by ProGrad

Getting your foot in the door is a start, but it’s not enough to ensure fast progression and growth throughout your career.

With the current state of the economy, many organisations are trying to balance their restructuring and retention needs to ensure they maintain their well-trained, multi-skilled organisation.

It has been recognised that without well trained employees, a company can lose its competitive advantage. It is for this reason, it is essential for all organisations to continually be training their staff to ensure maximum success.

When recruiting new employees, organisations often focus on selecting staff with the right attitude and essential competencies such as confidence, drive to succeed and strong communication skills. Once a suitable candidate is selected they can then use training and mentoring to ensure the necessary skills are acquired.

Main Benefits of Training:

      1) Assist employees to grow, develop and gain fast progression

Providing training can benefit employees as it can be used as a tool that can lead to a fast progression rate through an organisation. Quality skills and knowledge can be seen as a powerful bargaining tool when looking to move up within a company.

       2) Assist organisations in achieving their goals and objectives

Providing training can increase job satisfaction and staff morale by creative a strong learning culture within an organisation which can lead to an improved profitability and a more positive attitude towards achieving the organisations goals and objectives.

Other Graduate Jobs

by ProGrad

ProGrad work across a variety of industries, yet the vast majority of our roles are within the business to business sales teams.

This doesn’t suit all candidates, as we know.  Where possible we will try to develop other positions for graduates, in client services, account management, marketing and technical positions.

ProGrad also own a graduate jobs careers portal, www.graduatejobs.com.au which is designed for any organisation to advertise their graduate roles.  We offer employers free advertising on this site, and it is free for graduates to join.

There are a number of graduate programs being advertised, and this careers portal is growing daily.  With the current economic climate, it seems that many organisations are recognising the value in graduate employees.

If you have any questions about the site, please feel free to contact us directly on 02 8235 8300.

What can employers do to inspire their teams?

by ProGrad

It’s a tough market and it’s having an impact on the motivation and morale of employees.  With so much stress in the office, lower sales and a more restrictive budget – what can employers do to motivate staff?  Redundancies are happening frequently, and team sizes are rapidly shrinking.  Now is the time to rebuild the motivation of the current, leaner teams.

We’re seeing some imaginative employers take their teams to the local bowling alley, as a cost effective way of building team spirit.  Its a great way to build up team spirit, particularly if redundancies have left some gaps.  Other ideas include “credit-crunch-lunch” which involves a cheap and cheerful lunch for the team.

There are so many messages that really must be communicated by management in these tough times and a simple company or departmental meeting with some sort of fun element to it, will definitely help the cause no end.

And if you’re management aren’t proactive about it, then work with them to make recommendations.  Now is the time for every employee to stand up and be counted.  Ask your line manager whether you can run a presentation, training session or group incentive.  Don’t get sucked into the negativity that might be breeding internally, now is a great opportunity to demonstrate your ability to see the “bigger picture”.

It is likely that management are watching employees closer than ever before – so use this to your advantage.  Employers will favour those staff members who demonstrate a passion for the common goals of the business, regardless of their longevitiy within the business or their seniority.
